Sequoyah Country Club, located in Oakland, CA, is seeking an Assistant Superintendent to join the Agronomy team. We have a unique golf experience and environment for individuals seeking to enhance their career. Sequoyah, founded in 1913, sits in the Oakland Hills and offers breathtaking views of the San Francisco Bay Area. 

This role is designed to help teach and advance the skills necessary to advance in the turfgrass industry. The Assistant Superintendent will be involved in all aspects of course maintenance. These duties will include, but are not limited to, daily course setup, water management, fertilizer/ chemical calibrations and applications, staff management, and budgeting. 

Sequoyah Country Club is in the finishing stages of completing a complete golf course renovation designed by Jason Blasi. Project highlights included the addition of a full-length driving range, re-routing of golf holes, new, variable-depth USGA greens, new Rainbird IC irrigation system, new drainage, new bunkers, among numerous other changes. Other coming projects at the Club include a new golf shop and member bar. The golf course projects to open without restrictions in the spring of 2027.

 

Responsibilities and development opportunities include:

-Work closely with Superintendent to schedule, train, and direct staff. Staff size will increase by 25% to better service membership.

-Coordinate irrigation, pesticide, fertilizer, and agronomic practices. The fairways have transitioned to Tahoma-31 bermudagrass, the greens to Centennial bentgrass, and the roughs to a fine fescue blend. This mix of species will require a fine tuned approach to ensure each performs to membership expectations. 

- Selected candidate will gain exposure to budgeting, club meetings, local/ national educational and networking opportunities, as well as gain exposure to all facets of golf course maintenance.  

 

Schedule Expectations:

- Having a healthy work/ life balance is important in this position. While exact schedules will be dictated by time of year and agronomic practices, selected candidate will receive two days off per week.

- Must obtain CA Qualified Applicator's License/ Certificate within 90 days
