Assistant Superintendent

Half Moon Bay Golf Links is a 36 hole facility located in Half Moon Bay. We are seeking a committed and detail-oriented Assistant Superintendent to join our grounds team. You’ll work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent on planning, scheduling, and executing maintenance and project work. This position offers hands-on experience, mentorship, and the chance to build a strong foundation for a long-term career in turfgrass management and advancement into a Superintendent role.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support the Superintendent in overseeing daily maintenance of the golf courses and surrounding grounds.
• Assist in planning, executing, and monitoring agronomic practices, including mowing schedules, chemical applications, irrigation, and pest/disease management.
• Apply fertilizers, pesticides, and other turf products as directed, ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
• Provide supervision, training, and development of staff to promote team engagement and continuous improvement.
• Take a leadership role in crew management and communication.
• Monitor and adjust irrigation systems for optimal turf health and water efficiency.
• Collaborate with equipment technicians to ensure proper use and care of machinery.
• Support recordkeeping including chemical applications, scheduling, and labor management.
• Maintain compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.

Qualifications:

• 2- or 4-year degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum 3-5 years of experience in golf course maintenance; supervisory experience preferred.
• Strong understanding of modern turfgrass science, irrigation systems, and course conditioning strategies.
• Willingness to work flexible hours including early mornings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Bilingual in Spanish is a plus but not required.
• Pesticide Applicator’s License or ability to obtain within 90 days.
