First Assistant Golf Course Superintendent
Private Member-Owned 18-Hole Facility
Our club is a private, member-owned 18-hole facility, hosting 48,000 rounds annually. Our greens feature a Bentgrass/Poa composition, complemented by lush fairways irrigated from on-site healthy wells.
The 1st Assistant Golf Course Superintendent plays a critical role in maintaining the overall integrity of the course and supporting the Golf Course Superintendent in executing daily and long-range maintenance schedules. This position is responsible for supervising the maintenance and repair of motorized and other mechanical equipment, ensuring all operations run efficiently. Additionally, the 1st Assistant Superintendent may assume the duties of the Golf Course Superintendent during their absence, providing leadership and decision-making as required.
We are seeking a qualified Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to join our management team. Reporting directly to the Golf Course Superintendent, this position assists in all aspects of course maintenance and agronomy to ensure championship-level playing conditions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Planning, Scheduling, and Supervising
- Prepare daily work schedules in advance (completed the prior day).
- Maintain a daily log of work completed (submitted at the end of each day).
- Provide direct supervision and oversight of all golf course staff.
- Agronomic Monitoring of Turfgrass
- Conduct daily inspections of greens, tees, and fairways.
- Report any turfgrass stress or unhealthy conditions to the Superintendent.
- Recommend and assist in implementing appropriate recovery methods using professional judgment.
- Irrigation System Management
- Assist the Superintendent in developing and executing daily irrigation schedules.
- Evaluate turfgrass conditions daily as they relate to over- or under-watering.
- Adjust and fine-tune the irrigation system to correct undesirable conditions.
- Monitor pump stations, booster pumps, and wells for proper operation.
- Oversee irrigation controls and satellite systems to ensure efficiency.
Plan, supervise, and schedule daily maintenance staff activities
- Monitor turfgrass health and implement recovery practices as needed
- Assist in irrigation programming, adjustments, and system oversight
- Contribute to the safe, efficient, and professional operation of the maintenance department
Qualifications:
- 2- or 4-year degree/certificate in agronomy, horticulture, or plant/soil sciences
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience supervising staff in golf course maintenance
- Must obtain California QAC within one year of hire
- Strong knowledge of turfgrass, irrigation, pest management, and equipment operations
- Bilingual skills preferred
- Demonstrated interest in advancing into a Golf Course Superintendent role
Compensation & Benefits:
- Salary: $90,000 – $100,000
