The Villages Golf & Country Club is a private 55+ gated community located in the scenic foothills of San Jose, CA. Designed by Robert Muir Graves, the facility includes:
- 18-hole championship course
- 9-hole par-3 course
- Two full practice areas (The Vineyard and Montgomery)
- Driving range
The Club hosts 45,000–50,000 annual rounds played exclusively by members and guests. The membership is highly engaged and supportive of continued course improvement. In 2025, all 56 bunkers were renovated using Capillary Concrete liners and G3 sand.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a Golf Course Superintendent / Director of Agronomy to lead all golf course and grounds operations. The current Superintendent is retiring after a successful tenure and leaves behind a strong foundation of trust and progress.
This is a rare opportunity to step into a well-supported, well-funded leadership role with modern infrastructure and a committed team.
Role Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a diverse crew with a focus on quality, efficiency, and professional growth
- Collaborate daily with the Director of Golf, Operations Assistant General Manager, and department heads
- Develop and manage operating and capital budgets
- Oversee agronomic planning, irrigation, water usage, and pesticide programs
- Manage equipment maintenance, purchasing forecasts, and vendor relationships
- Maintain compliance with California and local environmental standards
Ideal Candidate Traits
- Proactive leader and clear communicator
- Strong organizational and administrative skills
- Experienced in cool and warm-season turf and water management (Perennial Rye/Poa/Bermuda mix)
- Committed to continued education and innovation
- Must have or obtain California QAL within 6 months
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $155,000 to $165,000 annually (negotiable)
